In desperate hours,
When men stood by walls,
The gallant fought for the nations pride,
Women wailed for the Daring.
Sitting on the porch,
She Hoped to trace his footsteps,
As she watched the rain wash away,
The fading memory that remained Was to watch her man leave th gates,
He had left her arms,
To join the Rest,
Who pledged to serve their land.
For hours she sat,
Her silent weeps Cradled her,
Troubled thoughts of her man,
Age yoked in the merciless battle.
Alas!! On that ghastly day,
The Bugle of death echoed the streets.
The blushed cheeks, edged with grief. As her little one cried an innocent laugh,
Her smile veiled the lamenting heart.
Times had changed,
The brave had bled.
As the land was freed,
The child's innocence promised a new world....
